Americans Spending More Time Online

Nielsen has released its first comparable U.S. figures showing video and TV usage on all three screens (Television, Internet, Mobile).

In May the average American watched 127 hours of TV and went online for 26 hours, up 9 percent over 2007. Internet and mobile phone users viewed an average of 2 hours of online video during the month.

Expedia Labels French Worst Tourists

Here was the basic plot of the gore movie, Hostel: Obnoxious American tourists get sold to butchers at a higher rate than tourists from other countries because, well, they’re obnoxious American tourists. And that’s just not right, because according to a worldwide survey of hotel staffers from Expedia, it’s the French who are the most obnoxious tourists.

Like we needed a survey; we saw Talladega Nights *.

Teen’s Voice Leads To YouTube Popularity

A seventeen-year-old Minneapolis high school student has helped propel the popularity of a video on YouTube called "Where the Hell is Matt" by being heard singing in the clip.

The video features Matt Harding, the clips creator, dancing in more than 40 different countries around the world.

More Action On The Facebook App Front

A cynical person (and/or someone who’s tired of zombies and sheep) might argue that Facebook should ban all applications.  The social network hasn’t gone that far, but for the sake of users’ privacy, it has at least shown an encouraging willingness to restrict the things.

Russian Blogger Convicted Of Inciting Hatred

A Russian blogger who referred to local police as "scum" in a post received a suspended jail sentence on Monday for extremism, leading other bloggers to express concern over online free speech.

Savva Terentiev, a 28-year-old musician from Syktyvkar, 940 miles north of Moscow, wrote a post that suggested the police should be dealt with by burning officers two times a day in a town square.

Facebook Beach Party Stalled By Police

A beach party organized on Facebook that was expected to attract as many as 10,000 revelers has been canceled after police warned that it was illegal.

More than 7,000 people had confirmed on the social networking site that they would attend the party billed as "a night of mayhem," in the coastal town of Torbay, England.
